Updates?

Just got home from YoA. I'm going to be out of town starting 7:15am tomorrow until next Tuesday. So your regular updates and Power Rankings and all that shit will be late... if not lacking.

Paige, Todd, Smithkey and Litman had perfect picks this week. They are owed one drink from Deeks, Nate, Gorecki and Caruso. I know some were paid... but many were not (Gorecki didn't even show up to the bar).

As always, its the winners job to make sure they get paid.

I know I'm asking too much... but it would be awesome to come home next week and see some recaps on the blog. Maybe about the home run that was kicked over the fence. Or the bloody scalp from the triple that Tony couldn't turn into a home run. Or about how Pauly beat out Tony for a spot on the soccer team in high school. Or maybe how the Liggers scored double-digit runs for the second time in my 8 seasons playing (we beat Your Mom in Spring 2009 12-2... because that team was always horrible).

GKB has been alerted about the beer situation at Yard of Ale. YoA will be talked to. If anyone has any other complaints, post them up!

There was a lot of confusion last night with the head ref behind the pitcher. The kicker never knew how many strikes/balls there were, because either the ref didnt make a hand gesture, or didn't yell loud enough for the kicker to hear. Also, people in the field were complaing that they hinder the view of the kicker from the outfield. Why add another person in the field to get in the way?

Johnny was blaming the miscommunication between the ref and the kicker on the music volume being too loud, and asked us multiple times to turn down the music.

I dont think we should have to turn down the music, as music is part of what makes the league fun. And I dont think there is a noise ordinance at 745pm in that neighborhood.

One nice fact about yard of ale that people may not know:

On game nights when they charge $5 for parking, keep your parking stub til you get your check, then the bartender/waitress will take $5off your final bill.

All I have to say is the Liggers showed some serious offense last night that has never been seen in recent history of the boys n girls in blue. I'm sure we would have dominated even more if Chandler would have let me play only two girls in the field like my first lineup showed, but he kept going on about "rules" or something like that. My work here is done.....

Frank you should put all this in your game recap, that you had better be writing!

Ill write something up this afternoon

I like the ref in the middle of the field. Ref just needs to speak up. Our ref was great in my opinion. Side judges helped out perfectly. Good job GKB.
Good thing were not in WAKA anymore Frank bc those comments would put you on the fast track to getting banned...

I think Johnny already wants me out... And yes I know you like the ref in the middle of the field, as it was your idea to use one there in the first place. If it comes down to me having to turn down our music so the ref can scream the count to the kicker, then my vote is for the main ref to be behind the plate. And what happened to your guaranteed win?

FRANK said...

Just like your 0-10 fantasy squad last season?

Nate Dawg said...

I dont think you should have to turn down your music, never said you should have to do that. Our team is much better than the score of that game indicates. We will put it together and win for sure next week.
Hahaha 0-10 now? I think I had 2 or 3 wins but yea my team sucked last season. New year...gonna be back in the finals with ya. Gotta figure out what I am going to buy with my $600...

Brews to crush?

Not a bad idea...

The refs need to just clearly yell or signal the call. Easily fixable. I thought the two new refs were great.

I still dont really see the good in having the ref behind the mound. What are the pros of doing this? And if there were a lot pros to doing this, wouldnt they do this in major league baseball?

Negg:
Cant make a call at home on a play at the plate.
Cant communicate well with the kickers on what the call/count is
Gets in the way if a ball is hit up the middle
Shields the view of the Short Fielder, etc. looking in.

Pros--*crickets* Better angle on the plate for balls and strikes? Pointless since all the ball has to do is go between the 5 foot cones. Better angle to make calls? We have three refs out there already, and all have a better vantage point than the pitcher ref.

Discuss!

Kind of a weak turnout at the bar last night. Although Supa was in Full Force!

Chandler said...

If we don't have base refs, the paid red has to be at the mound to see 1st and 3rd. Now that it's mandatory to provide base refs, frank might be right. But let's see how long teams adhere to the new rule

bull said...

I don't really see the point in having the ref on the mound either...not if we have refs on 1st and 3rd. If we don't that's another story. I do know that our ref was telling the pitcher the count, doesn't really help the kicker but good for the pitcher.

The bar turn out started alright but quickly went down when the beer ran out. Not really GKBs fault there. Also inside was REALLY warm! They need to work on that AC.

I hear your argument Frank, I like the ref in the middle bc that is how I prefer it when I ref for Kickball Society but I am a much more vocal and active ref than the guys they have for GKB. For the purposes of this league I dont really have a preference so if it really bothers people move them back behind the plate.

Chandler said...

I know it's real easy to call for changes and shit... Or to suggest doing differnt things... But can we all agree the new guys did an overall good job, especially considering it was the first week? I mean... Rollo didn't even think about calling our guy a bitch

Alison said...

I agree that overall it seems that the refs did a good job. I have a few problems with the way my game went down, but that doesn't mean all the refs were making mistakes.

I've always had an issue with the refs not being vocal about the count. It’s amateur, in my opinion, and not how a paid ref should run the game.

I pitched some innings during my game and when the count was called I know I was the only person would could hear it. Get LOUD, refs!
