3 years ago I joined Balls n Dolls, I was new to Tampa and didn't have friends.  Then a guy on BnD told me about you, I saw you, I was captivated.  You were energetic, funny, youthful.  We became friends and I found new friends & fun through you.  You were my first true friend in Tampa, we've been through so much, and it breaks my heart to see you in your aging days of decay.  DON'T DIE!!!! not on my watch.

Winter 2013 GKB Registration

Registration for the next season of GKB begins next Monday, December 10th.

That week will be considered registration for returning players and teams. Captains should use it as an opportunity to get their rosters set before GKB fills up the remaining spots with new people (who will probably stop showing up in week 4).

Congratulations Pitches Be Crazy!!! 

It was a close race between SuperBad, Off Constantly, and Pitches, but Pitches Be Crazy did pull ahead and win by two votes.  I definitely agree that it’s long overdue.  I didn't hear a speech by Deeks after winning but maybe he'll give us a recap of his heartfelt thoughts here.  Johnny provided our winners with a bottle of champagne for their celebration.

Tournament!

Congrats to Pitches be Crazy for a long overdue, and much deserved, Crystal Pitcher victory. Allegedly they beat SuperBad by two votes, but I won't be able to confirm that unless the ballots suddenly show up in my bushes. Regardless, good job and impressive first round upset over Off Constantly.

Green Salute to Desoto Park Light Post #3

The DPT Green Corner salutes this season’s silent Green Hero: Desoto Park’s Light Post #3.

If you played any game on Field #1 (affectionately known as “the Mud Pit”), you’d have noticed that a shadow effect came into play.  That’s because Light Post #3 was never on.  Not only did it add an “obstacle” into the kickball game with the “shadow effect”, which increased the Fun Factor of trying to catch a partially light Kickball, but it also helped minimize our CO2 consumption per game.  By just how much, well, now that’s the fun part when we do the math.  YAY!:

Let’s assume 1 bulb had a power rating of 1,000 Watts, and in general 1.7 pounds of CO2 is produced for every kilowatt-hour of electricity, so:

153 lbs of CO2 saved!

That’s like offsetting Litman’s CO2 emissions for a whole day!!

I also want to personally thank those that helped recycle this year.  By using just a fraction of conscious effort in throwing a beer can into the blue bin instead of the trash can, you’ve helped keep this world green, and also help lower the price of American consumer goods, because it’s much easier to get aluminum from a can than digging it out of the Ground; way easier to turn a cardboard beer box into a newspaper than cutting down a tree to do so.

Let’s talk about SEX…..y Tournament Brackets!

I thought I would get this up earlier but some time during today my IT decided there is too much sex on the DPTs for the workplace and it is now filtered (Say it ain't so, Valerie!  Also, please see what you can do about this!).  But the gambling must continue!!!  On to the brackets…

For those of you who have never gambled with us during a tournament, DPT lurkers (yes……you), newcomers to the league, or if you rode the short bus to school and just can’t remember how it works:

You will find a printable bracket here or by using the “Playoffs – NEW” link on the right side of this blog.  On Friday the seeding will be complete and the bracket ready for you to fill out.  I will also have some extra blank brackets in the Alcoballic tent on tournament day if you need one. 

Correct picks are awarded points based on a 1-2-4-6 system as the tournament rounds progress. 

Your bracket must be turned in to me BEFORE the games start.  No, not before your game…all the games.  If you don’t play until the 11:30am game and cannot manage to be there before the first round you may e-mail me your bracket by 4pm on Friday.  If you don’t pay me upon arriving at the fields your bracket will be thrown out. 

You must include all of the following with each bracket your submit:

1. $5 cash money per bracket.  I won’t be rolling with a ton of change so try to bring me those Lincolns, please.  No IOU’s as the pot is paid out the same day. 
2. Your name must be at the top of each bracket you submit! 
3. Next to your pick for tournament champion you’ll need to put the TOTAL number of points you think will be scored in the final game.  This will be a tiebreaker, if necessary, with under beating over. 

Did she say each bracket?  Why, yes I did!  You may submit up to two brackets.  There’s plenty of money to be made so get your bracket in!

The tournament is this Saturday at PAL (1924 W. Diana Street Tampa, FL 33604). It starts at 10am. We should be able to have 4 games at a time for the first two rounds, so we won't be out there all day.

After party is at the Rajun Cajun.

On the side of this blog is a playoff bracket. Teams will be filled in once their position in the standings is locked. If anyone wants to run a bracket pool, go for it. The admins of DPT are too tired. And we're not very welcoming, catering or accepting of anyone but ourselves.

Beer Nuts upset Jammers 3-2*



Last nights game between TBN and the Jammers brought back up one of the most controversial calls in NFL history.

No catch. Rams win. Haha.

In all seriousness if it is a catch its 1st and 10 at the 25 and the Bucs have scored 6 pts vs the Rams defense up to that point and there are 45 seconds left down by 5. Chance they get a TD to win it? Maybe. Probably not though.

So the play in the kickball game last night that brought this back up was in the bottom of the 6th inning with the score tied at 2. There was 1 out with Frank on 3rd base. Steph (not Lifshin) was up to kick and bunted towards 3rd base. E-Flo was reffing the game next to us and yelled out "FOUL" so Steph and others on the Jammers stopped what they were doing thinking Souder called the ball foul. Once the Jammers figured out that the ball was actually fair their 3rd baseman ran up and tagged out Steph. It was argued she would have kept running and gotten to 1st base if she hadnt heard E-Flo yell out foul. When you have a runner on 3rd base and a girl bunts you will almost never try and throw her out at first in order to keep the run from scoring. Especially in a close game. TBN asked if she could re-kick and the Jammers thought she should be out. Souder allowed her to re-kick and the run ended up scoring on that play since the kick went to the 1st base side. Jammers went 1-2-3 in the next inning and TBN won 3-2.

I just wanted to get others opinions on how you would call that play? Is she out or would you have the play re-played? I personally thought it was the right thing to do to have her re-kick.

I enjoyed playing the Jammers and its too bad that this happened in a good game.
