In a DPT exclusive (thanks Nate!), below is a link to the full kickball schedule before it's available anywhere else on the internets! It has a very interesting idea in week 10... so check it out.
Since most WAKA leagues only have 9 weeks in a season (alot of leagues play the 1st & 2nd round of playoffs in week 10 and the final rounds the next week and not a Saturday tourney like us...yea sounds gay to me too) the 10th week will not count towards the WAKA founders cup tourney standings but will obviously count in our league. We had the idea of doing a week 10 where the top team in the standings would play the 2nd place team, the 3rd against 4th all the way to the bottom two teams playing. This would avoid us having two teams being undefeated going into the end of season tourney. Im sure there are other ideas of how to do week 10 and I am definitely up for suggestions so maybe we can discuss at the captain's meeting in 2 weeks.
So the 10th week only counts to us for bragging purposes, and not to the WAKA standings?
What if you've already played the team you're scheduled to play in week 10? I understand this so the situation like last season doesn't happen with the 2 teams tied for 1st. But overall, wouldn't most teams want to play someone they haven't played yet?
Marla thats why I say we discuss week 10...I def agree with you on teams 13 vs 14 playing for a second time which wouldnt really mean anything. Lets talk about it in two weeks.
Potentially playing a team twice in the regular season doesn't sound all that appealing.
And what about match-ups like 7&8 and 9&10. The real possibility exists that those teams would then play each other the next week in the tourney as well. Who wants to play the same team 3x?
I like Bull's idea.
After Week 8.
Team Captains pick the team they want to play.
Top team gets 1st pick. 2nd place gets 2nd pick, and so on.......
This leads to fun things like -
* there is team you wanted to play but they weren't on your schedule,
* the #1 team wants to play the #2 team but the #2 team is scared
* you have a grudge against a team because they play with only 4 girls and shift their lineup around shady style and you'd like another crack at them
* you just want to play Ty's team again because you know you'll score 8+ runs.
And you do this after week 8 because that gives the captains enough time to let everyone on their team know. Plus since we are going to a two time slot schedule it really isn't that hard to plan, since you know already you are playing at either 7 or 8.
I just thought of a new way we can raise money! We bid on the team we want to play. (eg Team A: I got $25 says we play the Ligers!! Team B: Screw that $30 says we play the Ligers!!!)
I like that idea too, Bito... - but why would the #1 team WANT to play the #2 team? Nothing to gain, everything to lose.
But I think that idea would be great for the rest of the teams because of the other examples you listed...
Maybe a combination of the two ideas? Like making the tie-breaker rule be IF #1 and #2 finish week 9 with the same records, and there's no head-to-head during the season, then they are locked in as a week 10 match-up. Then the rest of the league goes by what Bull and Bito suggest. Obviously IF there was no tie at the end of the season, then #1 and #2 have nothing to worry about, and they get tthe first and second choice on who they wanna play in week 10.
- oh and if we do the rankings based on week 8, doesn't that make week 9 kinda meaningless (for the #1 vs #2 matchup)? Let's say #1 and #2 are locked in for week 10, but #2 loses to #3 in week 9...now #3 wants a shot at #1, but wouldn't get it. I just think leaving week 9 in there leaves it open for the rankings to change after everything's been set. Having only 2 time slots now should make it easier for teams to wait till after week 9 to find out who they play in week 10...if we had that captain's meeting at Mac's like right after the week 9 games maybe?
There's lots of ideas flying around, and we don't want to make it too complicated. Sounds like Nate came up with this idea for teams that were tied and didn't have a head to head game.
I think it'd be good to have all the weeks count towards everything and not play the same team more than once in the regular season.
Maybe we just leave week 10 open and have the board decide who plays who based on the current standings and input from players?
I think Nate's idea is pretty strong. Makes the top 2 teams play each other before the tourney almost assuring the seedings will unfold with a clear number one and an outright regular season champ, rather than possibly deciding those things based upon things like run differential or runs against.
I like Bull's idea of having teams pay money to charity to play the team they may have missed out on or pay to play one of the bad teams so they might move up in the standings. There would be of course some logistical questions like when do we decide but all of the scenerios presented have those.
I just want to know what the theme game between Your Mom and The Ligers is going to be.....
We don't play Top Shelf this season so the Roman Toga Bash is up for grabs with us. Plus I have beat any guy they put up against me in the wine chug-off. You scared?

Agreed. Just curious. It looks good though. Nice job!
Great job Nate! How bout we all get to pick what team we wont to play on Week 10. It will be nuts to work out but fun!
sounds like week 10 DOES count for our tournament standings. just not WAKA founders cup standings.
in any case, I like the idea. it gives every team once last chance to directly move up the leader board by playing a team with comparable skill.
whatever is decided... it's just nice to have some kickball back.

IDK...too complicated maybe?
everyone wants to play the Ligers... we give you jell-o shots and you probably walk away with a win...
sad face. :(

P.S. - When can we start pre-season picks?? :)
yea Ligers and Beernuts...you'd pretty much have the "Crystal Pitcher-Bidding" idea locked down...
I like Bull/Bito/Griff way of thinking too...sounds like GT's
There's lots of ideas flying around, and we don't want to make it too complicated.

lets just create a BCS committee!!
lol
I'm gonna write my congressman if we don't get to play who we want!! Hell it's not like they have anything else to do in DC!
