International Gator Day

For those not going to Ginnie Springs this weekend and need to get their kickball fix why not come out and spend some time with the kids from The Joshua House? The Tampa Gator Club is going to be playing kickball with kids who have been removed from their homes due to domestic violence/abuse and/or who are at risk.

The event is tomorrow (Sat 5/21) at Greco Park (11000 N. 50th Street) from 10am - 1pm.

Feel free to come on out and help as we need volunteers to play kickball, referee, umpire, score-keep, and help set up and take down the fields and service stations. Feel free to call or email me if you have any questions. Hope to see you out there!

Save Your Pets After Jesus Saves You!

Best idea I've heard in awhile.  So we all know the Rapture is going to take place on Saturday.  But while you ascend to Heaven, what happens to your pet??  Well... Fluffy will sadly get left behind and slowly starve to death in your home.  He might even die of an infection after he eats his own feces in a desperate attempt to replenish vital nutrients.  While you're busy doing keg stands with Jesus, your dog has about eight days of severe suffering to endure.

This is just one of the many consequences of the Rapture that believers fail to think about, even though the concept of Jesus rescuing all the saved souls before the End of Days was conceived 1,700 years after Christ's deathDid the Puritan's not own dogs?

But don't fret! Eternal Earth-Bound Pets is here to help!

That's right... some genius started a company in 2009 to profit from this May 21st nonsense.  For $135, you can have a documented Atheist come to your house after the Rapture to retrieve your pet. They will adopt the animal as their own and take care of it until we all die in the Last Judgment.  Read the FAQ for answers to all the obvious questions.

To date, the company has made over $30,000.

GOKickball Survey

Hey DPT readers.  If you played with us last season, take 45 seconds out of your day to fill out this anonymous survey for GOKickball.  Give them honest feedback on your experience, the refs, the fields, whatever.  Use the "other" line as often as possible to give precise responses.

GKB provided us with another South Tampa option practically overnight.  So the least we can do is tell them what to improve.

Rollo... try not to label each ref as a "bitch" in the survey.

*Update*
People are telling me they don't know which ref is which.

Trevor - guy with glasses and facial hair
Adam - shortest of the three refs
Ryan - the guy that isn't short and doesn't have glasses or facial hair

Poker Tournament

I will be running the NYC Marathon this year on behalf of the Michael J Fox Foundation. YES!, I will too be raising and indirectly asking for money. I filed the paperwork with the foundation on Friday and am finalizing everything with the foundation this week. I am planning on at least two poker tournaments to help raise money as well as an art and sports memorabilia raffle. I am scouting sites for the tournament, The Place reception area on the top floor has been suggested AND since Friday I have acquired an autographed caddyshack painting by Bill Murray, a 2004 Stanley Cup championship year signed Brad Richards Lightning Jersey. More stuff in the works like Bucs, Rays memorabilia as well as game tickets, golf packages, etc. Could I see some posts on the poker tournament interest level? I need to figure out if I need to extend the invite past the kb realm which is vast. The buy in will probably be $20-$25 and I am working out the prize details but there will be cash and prizes awards.

Thank you.

DPT Newsletter - What, Perchance, Might Be this Thing You Call "Juice?"

So Blogger took a massive dump last week.  From what I've read it appears they implemented some updates which crashed their system and deleted 30 hours of posts, comments and edits.  "Allegedly" they're working on getting those lost items restored, but they sure has Hell haven't gotten to DPT yet.  I have no idea why we aren't higher on the priority list, so if you've seen anything missing or gotten error messages over the past few days, that is why.

I can't say we lost much in terms of content (only a post or two on the golf site and a few comments).  But we did lose a bunch of shit I changed in the blog code.  Not that any of you would notice, but I'm annoyed.

This brings up the issue of "Cloud Computing" and Google's Chromebook.  Almost all computing companies are pumping billions of dollars into the future of the "cloud," which is the idea that not having data stored on your machines will greatly increase performance and whatnot.  But you have to remember that a "cloud" just means your data is stored on OTHER physical machines.  So when their hardware crashes, you're screwed.  They definitely backup and store multiple copies of your data... although in Blogger/Google's recent mess that data was 30 hours stale.
-------------------------------

So the off-season is in full swing.  Those of us who don't mind playing kickball year round are playing with KBS on Thursdays.  GKB's Thursday league should start back up mid-August, with registration opening mid-June.

There is a massive Ginnie Springs trip this weekend, which also coincides with the END OF THE WORLD!!

And don't forget the Summer Sizzle on June 11th (if Jesus hasn't returned and killed all you sinners).  Volleyball starts at 2pm so be there!

Guess that's all for now.  Go Bolts?

This has been floating around FB and it's so cute!

Summer Sizzle Games

Would anyone be interested in starting up a tournament for any games for the summer sizzle on June 11th, or just keep it informal?

I have a bunch of games:

Rootball
Volleyball
Horseshoes
Cornhole
Ladderball
Kubb

If enough people are interested, I could draw up a bracket, and we could collect money for the tourney, or get a trophy or something. Let me know who would be interested, or if you just want to play for fun/informal.

Thanks for your drinking donations!

Just wanted to update you all and thanks to all you drunks we sold 120 shots at the EOS party and a few vodka drinks, (I think I drank all those), for a grand total of approximately $130!! With a few random donations that also made it in the donation jug, we did pretty good!

Thanks for your continued support. I really appreciate it and I know Angie and Steph do too!

A special thanks to Alison for helping with making signs and Chandler and Gorecki for helping to plan the party. Also to Bull and Chandler for partially purchasing some of our beer! Thanks DPT! Keep drinking in the off season! Cheers!

WAKA names

Not only has the kickball talent, fun, economical practicality, amount of games, party quality, and general awesomeness deteriorated in WAKA, but now even the creativity behind the team names has taken a toll as well. Sure, I'm a schmuck for signing up, but I really want to punch Phil in the face during a game and only get slightly punished for it. I mean I might go to jail if I do that outside the confines of PAL fields. SO I have to pick a team other than Off Constantly, which is the only bona-fide kickball name of this bunch. This is the worst selection ever. Babara Ballters? seriously? Booze on First? yeah let's reference a comedy act from pre-WWI era. I Need a Refill has been playing for a year and still can't come up with a better name? And Ty seems to be writing a novel with his. These names suck. I feel the fun being sucked out of this season already.

Man do I miss Alcoballics, Superbad, Toejammers. Those names gave birth to the warm fuzzies inside me I came to know as kickball.

Flip-Cup Results

As expected, the ToeJammers came to the party and rolled though the competition, sweeping the Ligers 4-0 in the finals.  However, they didn't have a full team and didn't actually play in GKB this past season.  So we still needed to crown a league champion.  We decided to take the last two teams the Jammers knocked out (Ligers and Alcoballics) to determine a winner.

The Alcoballics did not falter and beat a flimsy Liger team 4-2 to win their first ever season title.  Congrats to them and the Jammers on flip-cup dominance.

Now you know.

GKB Season Party

Last reminder (from DPT anyway).

Season party tomorrow night at 7pm!  Wings Gone Wild.

$5 for flip-cup ($30 for team).  See and pay Bull when you get there to be placed on the official bracket.  Flip-cup starts at 8pm sharp!

Bring friends!

Oh... there will also be a couple of special shots.  Purchase of these will automatically donate money to Angie, Maria and Stephanie's 3-day walk fund.  So if you like to get drunk... and you like tits... buy a few shots.  If you like to get drunk... and you like penis... see Yellabird for a different type of "shot."

Anyone interested in competing in the Tampa Flugtag October 8th?

Just wanted to throw it out there and see who might be interested in creating a Flugtag team to compete in the Red Bull Flugtag coming back to Tampa this fall. I was thinking of maybe trying to construct a "DPT Flugtag" or something like that. Anyway below is a few of the important details. Anyone interested?

Cost:Free
Application due date: July 8
Event date: October 8

Champions League Final - Wembley 2011 5/28

For those of you not going to the Rays game that day, don't forget its Manchester United vs Barcelona........in the 2011 Champions League Final. A fairly poor United team (compared to previous years in my opinion) will take on what people are calling the greatest football club of our generation - Barcelona for the European honours. ( Which I think is a load of bollox, because United have been to more Finals in the last 4 years than Barcelona).

Kick off will probably be around 3pm ET, 8pm local. Not 100% sure of that but either way it will be an all day PartAAA!!

While the venue is London, Engerrrland, I supppose MacDintons will have to do us since its more than a Zingo away! Hope to see you nutjobs there in Red!!

Rays group outing May 28th

I'm starting to collect money for your tickets for the Rays game on May 28th. It's a 4:10 game and tailgating starts at noon in the same corner of the parking lot that we took over last year. There is a post game concert that day but they haven't released who it is yet. Personally I'm rooting for Twisted Sister. I know it's annoying but I have to get the tickets about 10 days in advance or else we all won't be sitting together. Bring whoever, just let me know who you are buying tickets for so I can keep track of names.

Kickball Costs

It's Monday.  Who wants some God damn charts?

Below is the cost of kickball in our area.  What we're showing is a comparison of dollars per game between WAKA, KBS and GKB over the last three seasons (Winter 2010, Spring 2011, Summer 2011).  The red tips show the gap between regular price and an early registration discount.

What conclusions can we make?
  1. Our exodus from WAKA had a very short-lived effect on their pricing structure.  Their discount last Spring was a desperate attempt to retain business, as shown by the ludicrous charge of $74 for a seven game season this summer.
  2. Kickball Society introduced an early registration discount in order to lure us after the revolution... but the key driver is their season length.  Due to an odd number of teams, they had to incorporate double-headers to avoid bye weeks and un-even game totals.  With 12 games last spring and 8 games this summer, KBS continues to give you maximum playing time for your dollar.
  3. GOKickball is trying to position itself as the most affordable and customizable option, which makes since because they're brand new to the Tampa market. Their ridiculously cheap summer league was based on a $30 sign-up deal for anyone who reads (or pretends to read) DPT.
It's very hard to determine the elasticity of the cost of kickball. While these statistics are interesting, I've yet to hear of anyone who actually quit a league due to increasing cost alone.  As WAKA raised their rates, we only raised our voices.

Regardless, we'll continue to monitor this for future seasons.

Reminder

GKB party this Saturday at Wings Gone Wild.  7pm start... 8pm flip-cup tournament... 9pm karaoke.

$5 per person; teams of 6 people.

20% off food items.

Iphone, Iphone 5 or Droid?

Ok, I've been saying I was gonna do this for a while so here it is. I am thinking about getting a new phone and since I don't know anything techy like you guys out there I need some advice. I am looking at staying with Verizon so my options are these-

New 4G Bolt (I think that is what it is called.)
Iphone 4, currently out with Verizon
Iphone 5, set to be released in Sept.

So my question is, which is the best? Do I wait for the next best Droid/Iphone? I know you people have opinions and I want to hear your debates. Please weigh in!! Thanks! PS Yes I'm helpless.
