DPT on Your Side!

"Full Disclosure."  It's something that should have been in place since Day 1 of this league.

It doesn't really matter how we got to this point, but I find it quite sad that we pay $140+ a year for a social charity group... yet none of us have any idea how much money we've donated each season to said charities.

And what percentage of our "dues" are used in the facilities that we play on? Is PAL giving us the best deal they can? Might we be able to negotiate 30 extra minutes of lights for no additional charge, based on all the money we give them a season (the answer is yes)? Would that guarantee that NO games are cut off before their stated 90-minute allotment (yes again)?

DPT is going to start working with our elected board to bring you all the information available involving our league. We shouldn't just expect this disclosure... we should be demanding it. This is our league, our money, our charitable donations.

We are going to provide the following items each season, AND work on going as far back as we can to fill in previous seasons:

1) PAL field agreement
2) Mid-season & end-of-season party contracts and deals
3) Total money donated to charity (along with names of charities supported)

Later today Brie will post our deal with Wings Gone Wild for this years mid-season party. Considering that we've paid $120-$210 PER KEG in previous seasons... she's really done an excellent job securing the best deal we've ever seen in the Bayshore Division. I hope this information serves as a baseline for future boards, and that as members of this community everyone takes interest in how our elected officials are working for us.

Speaking of working for us... one of our best investigative reporters was able to secure the PAL contract. You can find that here... and later it will be forever linked on the side of this blog (along with the other information promised).

While I'm sure people (HNiB) will have a lot to say about the details of this contract, I really think we should assume that PAL has never been approached with our concerns. It took ONE phone call after week 2 for PAL (state of Iowa) to shift the lights to 6:30pm-9:30pm. They were very glad to help us, so please keep that in mind when you form opinions over what we should be negotiating.

And yes... that means after TBN's game last week was cut short... the lights were still on until 9:30pm (and the 2nd game was finished well before then).

Wow glad I took the over...$6500 for both leagues and $3530 for our league...who actually negotiates this contract? Ty?

Couple Things (I will go over the contract in more detail later and add anything else I see):

1.) If I played on Tuesday nights I would be pissed. They get their fields at a lower rate, but have to pay the same amount to play? BS

2.) If we pay for three hours of lights, and they are on from 630 to 930, why dont' we allow for a game to go 15 minutese over? Can we write this into the league rules next season?

3.) Section II, Sub-section D, article 1... does that not REQUIRE PAL to provide lights? Nowhere does it mention that we have to pay for them, until Schedule A. Seems to me we can use this as a negotiaton tool...

4.) To negotiate the parking fee away? It is a one line item tacked on at the end. Since we are already paying $105 a night for lights, why not say put that towards parking since you are REQUIRED to provide lighting, adn call it a day? That puts $1050 towards parking. Seems fair.

I agree with all points Grifter. We should negotiate the parking fee in with the field fee or the light fee. Less of a hassle for us (players having to remember to bring cash to the field and we all know its a credit card world) and PAL (Marcos standing there collecting money and holding onto a large sum of money in a bad neighborhood)

doesn't matter how long the lights stay on if Ty comes by and calls your game short

I agree, as I was talking to Alison about this last night, the lights are not the issue. The issue is the time limit of the games.

Rule 7.01B states "At the discretion of the division board, a single time limit may be set for all regular season games. Such time limit may not be shorter than 45 minutes and cannot exceed 90 minutes.

So all we need to do is get a board meeting together and vote on changing the time limit of a game from 60 minutes to 75-90 minutes. With the lights on from 6:30-9:30 I dont see a problem with having time limits extended.

Or we could make sure the Ref's know they can sack up and don't have to listen to Ty.

Head Ref of a Game is the end all be all. It is pretty simple.

I pray for the night Ty comes over to my game at 7:54 and tries to call it. I would then invoke
Rule # 3.03(c)
c. penalize a player, including game ejection, for any reason. This includes but is not limited to un-sportsman like
conduct, fighting, delay of game and excessive verbal abuse. Ejected participants must leave the field area and
may not return to the game.

In the big scheme of things Ty might be somebody. But on game night at the actual fields he is a player just like anyone else.

As for commenting on the actual contract. It is pretty standard.

I was just curious about

How much WAKA paid for the fields?

Where the inflexibility with the lights came from?

And the parking fees?

The "flexibility" of the lights is nothing more than... "nobody ever asked PAL for longer/different light times."

They have since been asked... and are now on from 6:30-9:30pm. No games should be cut short, even if they go 10 minutes over.
