Winter 2011 Kickball Options

I sent out an email to some people regarding the details of our kickball options.  If you didn't get it, more than likely it was just a huge oversight* on my part as I raced through my phone contact list.  Just ask and I'll forward it to you.

My inbox is blowing up with responses, which is good... but Smithkey correctly suggested we need public comments.   Please discuss:

  • WAKA - Take a massive dump on freedom and return to PAL for $72 + parking (paid for by your party budget).
  • Kickball Society - $55 if you sign up by midnight Wednesday (technically Thursday). $59 for a week or so after that.  $65 after that period.  Play up in Temple Terrace, which is a decent and established league.
  • GorecKickball** - $50 for ex-WAKA members, no deadline on that price.  Field is actually in South Tampa.  League is very small and customizable.  If it sucks, we either help make it better or return from whence we came.  Here's a link to what this league looks like.

*There is the slight chance that I fucking hate you and wish you bodily harm.  :)
**The league is not actually called this.  I'm just busting Gorecki's old-man balls.  www.gokickball.com/tampa

List of Bayshore movement.  Please comment or email me so this is accurate.

Personally I am going to go with KBS. It is an established league with plenty of other teams, great owners, and a great bar. I realize that Temple Terrace is too far for a lot of South Tampa snobs to drive but I feel the same way about the new fields around Gandy. WAKA is not even an option but I do like that both of the new options have the sponsor bar close by because the drive to Dintons really killed my buzz.

The Gandy fields sound nice in theory but it is only going to be a matter of time before we are banned from drinking at the fields and I would also prefer to play with more then 8 or so teams in the league.

Perhaps in the future I will be open to playing in the Gandy area but as of now I am signing up for KBS and giving them my business. Hope to see you all there but if not I understand and it is just kickball.

Souder and myself are willing to play in KBS or GKB. So some of the people with a definite opinion should let it be known.

First, "FUCK YOUUUUU and FUCK CHANDLER TOOOO!" after that posting that pic of me, I can just see that surfacing as the next "man-kini" on The Soup.

To clarify I did not start this south tampa league and wont be receiving a percentage of your dues if you join, although now im tempted to ask.

You all know my connection with the Tampa Gator Club (a separate posting will be on this site later regarding the club) and how the Gator Club uses wings gone wild for their game viewings. The owners told me of this new league (pronounced gokickball not goreckickball) and how wings is going to be their sponsor. So I told him of our recent boycott and he put me in touch with gokickball.

As Chandler described in the email, its located on Manhattan Ave near Euclid Ave, which is no where near gandy (Smithkey you polk county native). Its probably 10 minutes North of Gandy and 10 minutes SW of Mac Dintons. Chandler and I rolled up to the fields last night with the music blaring, shined the brights on the field and not one surrounding house (which are few and far between) seemed to take notice. So it will be a gamble to drink and the league founder is willing to allow it, as Chandler played Nostradamus and forecasted it'll only take a season or two before our group gets him in trouble and he'll be forced to find a new field, which he seems ok with and has already been in talks with several parks/fields.

More info regarding the field and the league will be posted tomorrow. I understand those that want to join a league who's field is closer to their homes, maybe we should hold an interleague game between the two leagues next year.

-Cowkini Out.

"*There is the slight chance that I fucking hate you and wish you bodily harm. :)" The smiley face does not make this alright. My vote is for the GoKickball league for three reasons.
1) it sounds like we will be doubling their business pretty easily, and they will look to us for suggestions on how to make things better, a huge difference from WAKA.
2) it is much closer to my house than either of the other leagues. I don't really care where anyone else lives.
3) I think I actually enjoy a smaller league. When it gets too big, it gets out of control.
Having said all of that, I will not be able to play in this February league due to the timing of the birth of the baby Beer Jew, but would most likely join up again the second season.

I have to support my teammate, the Cowkini, & vote GKB. Plus I'm clearly a South Tampa snob & venturing that far north of Kennedy for KBS is not an option. It will be hard enough for me not being able to walk home from the sponsor bar, but I'm willing to make that sacrifice for freedom.

I'm willing to go with KBS or GoKB...although I know alot of people from TBN will be more inclined to want to play in S Tampa.

My vote is for GKB. I say we give it a chance. Don't let the cowkini scare you away, kids. I have the power to make sure that thing is hidden so it doesn't make appearances on Thursday nights. Unless you want it to (in which we should be having an entirely different conversation...).

I'm all for GOrecKickball! Oh and Weds nights works best for me! I love the fact that we will be able to pretty much run the show and not listen to silly DC. And McDints blows!

Well I love the idea of GKB! I will play either, but GKB is 5 minutes from my house. Plus, this would be great for anyone who lived in St. Pete as it's not far from Gandy or 275. I also like the idea of a smaller setting. GoKB!

I screwed up JW's comment trying to be funny. Here's the gist of what he wrote:

"You can count the OC in to the South Tampa league. It's not 10 minutes north of Gandy. In fact, I would bet it's around a mile north, but that's good enough for my team full of South Tampa snobs, a title which we wholeheartedly embrace.

I'm sure other South Tampa snobs I know will want to join, too. This is a great chance for DPT to partner up with gokickball... etc etc"

Brie, if the cowkini goes into hiding, then the Borat outfit comes back out. Now none of us want that do we? DO WE???

Rosey said...

Count me in for GO(recki)Kickball as I too qualify as a South Tampa snob.

I'll eat some wings at WGW, but the after after bar that I get my drink on will always be MacDintons!

....or maybe Dubs

I LOVE this option!!!!!!!
1- Because I can walk there from
my house!!!!!
2- Cheap, small league!
3- Did anyone e-mail Superbad about this on Thursday night, I think they'd be down!??
4- Yes, I like Superbaders.
5- I may not have to give up kickballing!!

* Suggestion, ya know how we drank from unmarked closed containers up in Northdale, might be a good option to still be able to undercover drink at this field.

Chandler said...

I emailed it to the wrong Frank who doesn't even live down here. I've corrected that error.

M. Gorecki said...

Jack, since you're a S Tampa Snob you should know better and agree that people in this neighborhood would fully deny they live anywhere near Gandy.

And screw Wings Gone Wild. Pre and Post party at Marias house EACH WEEK of the season!!

Falcor is soooo going back in the microwave.

Smithkey said...

Count me in if it is on a Wed night, as I would not mind playing in both leagues. Also curious to how the league will work if there is only enough room for two games to be played at once

Chandler said...

Same way WAKA used to work at PAL... three time slots. That allows for up to 12 teams.

Maria said...

I would love to host the mid season or end of season party if you donate all the "party funds" to me to pay off my mortgage when I get kicked out of my neighborhood! haha

"South Tampa snob here too. That field is like 30 seconds from my house, so GoKickball it is. I probably wouldn't do KBS, but I sure as shit wouldn't do waka.

If we do Wednesday night, I am going to be hardpressed to drive past Red Dog and it's 50 cent drafts to go to WGW."

But we shouldn't give anyone any ideas. Haha.

In for GoreckiBall of course... and I prob will still play KBS as well.. whoot whoot...

Missy said...

I'm in for GKB!!! WED or TH. Really hoping Superbad makes the move. If not, may be a free agent.

Chandler said...

Teneille... GKB and KBS are probably both going to be Thursday nights.

Missy... Frank said he and Sandra are interested.

I have already signed up for KBS for Thursdays and Sundays.

I enjoy the rivalries and friendships I have made with everyone from waka, but I like the variety of playing other teams and meeting new people (which is the original reason I signed up for kickball in the first place)as well. I think KBS has always been willing to work with us and accommodate us to the best of their ability, and thus have earned my loyalty as a customer for the Winter season.

However, if GoKB ends up being the place for everyone, maybe I'll just do KBS on Sundays after Winter and give GoKB a try after you guys get banned from the boys and girls club for drinking and they find another facility....haha

Geoff said...

Since I'm a North Tampa snob, I think the Goreckini league is too far south

Litman said...

I already signed up for KBS Tuesday morning and got my discount. I currently play there and don't mind the league. I realize you don't care though. Temple Terrorists baby!

Chandler said...

Of course we care. Nate probably doesn't, however. But it's definitely worth noting where people are going to play next season. Predictably, the North Tampa people are choosing KBS while the South Tampa people are willing to try GKB. If either one of those leagues figure out a place to play in a more centralized location, I'm sure we'll all be up for it.

KBS almost made it happen, but they drastically underestimated the amount of time they had before WAKA got involved. They also underestimated PAL's willingness to cater to WAKA.

Moral of the story: act fast when the opportunity is there.

And go thin to win.

Wait... that last one has nothing to do with this.
